A Play, A Documentary Film, A Song, A Music Video…

A Theatrical Journey In The City Of Angeles

A documentary following the development, auditions, rehearsals, trials, mishaps and eventually the premiere of a play in L.A. is currently in production Modern Love, the new play by Anthony Mora, whose plays have been compared to Mamet, Pinter and LaBute, will premiere at the Sidewalk Studio Theatre in Toluca Lake California in mid 2008. The documentary, which will make the rounds at the various film festivals, is being produced and directed by Anthony Mora.

Modern Love follows an L.A.-based film producer turned writer/director whose obsession with his directorial debut takes him down a precarious path. It is a dark, comedic tale revolving around ideas of power and control in Hollywood; and what happens when those in power become obsessed with their own creation.

"We’re trying to capture quite a bit with this project, Anthony explains. “I thought it would be interesting to document the development, rehearsal and audition process of launching a play in L.A. The documentary is now going to include interviews with others in L.A.’s theatrical world. We’re actively looking for interesting L.A. theatre stories. Doing theatre in the film and TV Mecca has its inherent challenges. Unlike the play, the documentary has no built-in plot point or structure. It’s pretty much leading us."

Anthony serves as the playwright-in-residence at the Sidewalk Studio Theatre. In 2006, the theatre premiered two plays by Anthony, P.O.P. The Principles of Perfection and BANG! A Love Story, which Anthony adapted for the stage from his controversial, award winning novel. Scenes from Bang! featuring Linda Cardellini were performed at the Acme Theater in Los Angeles and The American Place Theater in New York.

Modern Love, which will be produced by Kurt Swanson and directed by Anthony Mora, will feature Aubrie Wienholt, Rico Simonini, Ann Convery, Megan Hallin and Zane Helberg. It will premiere at the Sidewalk Studio Theatre in September 2008.
