So last weekend CJ and I drove our asses to the mythical land of heroes and villains, Tucson. We we're invited by the University Activities Board - Film Committee to screen "The Adventures of Nate Grace: Tucson Underground" at Gallagher Theater. Here's a recap:
We screened "Sausage Fest" (10 minute version) to chuckles. Newcomer "Mashed" (not sure when it will pop up on Greenroots) tested very well. People laughed and gagged at the comedy-gore fest. "Tucson Underground" screened last with a 70 minute run-time. Luckily no one left the theatre. There were about 30 people in attendance and I'd say 1/3 were strangers, so that makes it interesting.
The reaction we received seemed to be pretty positive. There was a QandA afterwards where CJ and I responded to questions about the budget, production experience, locations, and actors. We would have definitely like to change a couple things after this experience, mainly the timing and our communication with those involved. I recommend doing a screening during a time when people aren't too drunk or tired to show up and also spread massive awareness about it. We relied on someone at UofA to market the screening when we should have spent the time doing it ourselves.
All in all, first screening was a success.
